Spaying & Neutering
One of the most common surgical procedures performed in our hospital is a spay (ovariohysterectomy) or a neuter (castration). Female pets are spayed, and male pets are neutered.
The surgery should be performed between 6 and 9 months of age. It is a very safe and highly effective procedure that will increase both your pet's quality and length of life.
For females, after spaying, your pet will never go into heat or become pregnant. It will greatly reduce the risk of developing mammary cancer or uterine trouble that we commonly see in un-spayed females later in life.
For males, neutering will minimize spraying (urinating) in your house, decrease roaming and fighting with other males, and prevent your pet from impregnating females.
For every routine surgery we recommend our Safety & Comfort Package which includes a basic blood test and electrocardiogram to minimize the risk of anesthesia. This can be done the day of surgery. If your pet is over 5 years of age we require a blood test and an electrocardiogram. The results of this panel will be available the same day, prior to surgery. We are excited to offer our patients laser surgery.
