AHHB’s Veterinary Technicians are trained medical professionals who work closely with our veterinarians to provide exceptional patient care. Veterinary technicians obtain 2-4 years of post-high school education and have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology. They then take a rigorous national exam and must pass to become registered in California and to achieve the title, Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Ongoing continuing education is required each year to maintain their license.

Veterinary technicians have been educated in the care and handling of animals, the basic principles of normal and abnormal conditions, and in many laboratory and clinical procedures. Veterinary technicians are trained to handle many tasks and scenarios; the most common include:

  • Obtaining medical histories
  • Collecting specimens and perform laboratory procedures
  • Providing specialized nursing care
  • Preparing animals, instruments, and equipment for surgery
  • Administering and monitoring anesthesia
  • Performing diagnostic and medical procedures (like bandaging, splinting, immunizations, and catheterization).
  • Assisting in surgical procedures
  • Performing diagnostic imaging
  • Educating clients
  • Supervising our veterinary assistants and treatment assistants
  • Performing dental radiography, dental cleanings, and many dental extractions.

Some of our veterinary technicians work in management and as Doctor’s Assistants. We are proud of our Veterinary Technician Team here at AHHB.
